Nothing is known about the engines either. There may be a material defect in the batch.
There were occasional problems with the camshaft and the bearings running in. But this was very rare.
Therefore I would first rule out mechanical defects with the compression.
The loss test can be used to check where it is lost (head gasket, valves, between the cylinders, etc.
i highly doubt that its the head-gasket. as the coolant pressure is not overpressurised nor does the car have any cooling issue.
My quick search on the B38 lead me to believe that it could be which was the camshaft or a valves that why i removed the valve cover for an inspection of the valvetrain.

thanks Mike for the offer. I think it time i buy these tool as i might them in the future.
It makes no logical sense why these lawn mower 3cylinder motor are so expensive on the used market.
Has anyone ever had problems with the #7? its called Ausgleichselement in german. A seized one can cause a missfire as it doesnt allow the valve to open and close properly.
